Recently a Post appeared on my Facebook timeline questioning the need to have a bridal party. And it got me wondering what other people think is the appropriate arrangement for bridesmaids and groomsmen. The article provided some history around the purpose of having bridesmaids and groomsmen, I will provide a link at the bottom of this post. As a celebrant in Coffs Harbour weddings that I perform will provide special memories for you, your partner, family and friends regardless of the number of people you decide to have in your bridal party.
Did you know you actually only need two witnesses to attend your wedding (including bride groom and a celebrant). However there is no limit to the number of people you and your partner decide to have by your side, as the bridal party, on your special day.
Personally I chose to have two groomsmen at my wedding to compliment the two bridesmaids that my wife wanted to have. I once was asked to be a groomsman for an acquaintance but I got the impression that I was just making up the numbers so there would be an even number in the bridal party – don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed the wedding and I felt honoured to be asked to participate.
I recently observed a wedding photo-shoot where there was a large number of people involved in the bridal party, and there was an uneven number of men to women in the bridal, does that matter?
I really believe it doesn’t matter a single bit who you decide to have participate in your special day, so long has you and your partner are happy that’s all that really counts.
What are your thoughts on what’s the correct number to have as your bridal party? Does it really matter?
